Installment I - The Spiritual Year
As we head into the winter solstice, it is the traditional time to think about death, judgement, heaven and hell. For Christians, it is the time for cleansing (purgation) the soul in preparation for the birth of the Christ into one’s heart. It is a time of Transition. At the end of the year, traditionally those who are aware or on a spiritual path usually take extra time to look at the past year and plan the upcoming year. It is the beginning of the “Dark Night of the Soul[i]” or the mystical union with the Divine energy.
This is a natural process, very similar to the way the trees shed their leaves, During this season, we called to shed light on all the actions and behaviors, thoughts and ideas, emotions and feelings that cause spiritual blockages (demons) that are clouding our judgment, increasing anxiety or stress, or anger. Perhaps this is one of the reasons the winter holiday season is more difficult for families. Many people are so materially busy at this time of year, they don’t know that they too are shedding spiritual leaves.
Even if you don’t know or may not be aware, ancient traditions still linger in our present:
We begin to clean our homes to manifest this energy and we put up holiday lights to shed light on the product of our manifestation (and, of course, to let Santa Claus (the symbol of charity) where we are.
The first step of this journey is cleaning up our act.
Questions to ask yourself:
What do I do that makes me unhappy?
What do I think that makes me sad or crazy? Is my mind like a gerbil on a wheel?
How am I responsible for my thoughts, emotions and actions?
How have I not been responsible for my thoughts, emotions and actions?
Transition – Light and Dark
[i] St. John of the Cross
I am at the bookstore every Monday. Text me at 720-732-8056 if you would like an appointment in person on Mondays. Telephone readings available every other day of the week. If you have seen me at the store and have yet to take advantage of this years BOGO, text me. This week only, I will be at the store one Thursday also.
My very amusing friend’s brother, Chris, has had cancer for quite some time. He is making his final transition as I write this. In my life, Chris was a metaphorical butterfly.
I was a sales girl working in my cousin’s store, an artistic, hippy-dippy, leather store. Chris came into the store and bought a particularly beautiful, hand-tooled leather jacket. I was the sales girl. Chris was charming. I forgot to make sure the credit slip was signed.
To recover my mistake, I called the number for Chris and left a message on his voice-mail, asking him to come back to the store to sign the credit slip.
That was the butterfly effect because that’s how I met Chris’ brother, my very amusing friend with whom I lived for the next several years. During that time, Chris was my friend. I lost track of Chris when I entered the Monastery in New Mexico in 1980.
At least a decade later, during a very dark night, I found my way into a construction area and could not find my way out. Chris had joined the Police department by that time. Chris recognized me and gave me a police escort out of the confusing, dark, construction area and to a safe place.
My prayer for you my friend Chris: First to say thank you for purchasing that jacket and Second, to say thank you for helping me out of a dark spot, is Vade Secura, friend.
Apparitions of the Holy Mother. Also known as the Goddess of 10,000 Names, I will be reading at the Goddess Isis Bookstore on Monday.
History is so dry. This video is a good documentary of the Presidency from the beginning of my life.
Aunt Debbie’s Short History of Politics
I will be posting this journal on my blog for the next few days. Since I recommend journals to help make decisions, I thought this might be helpful to those who may not understand the political mechanisms in the USA. It is a two-party system with an independent electoral college. For instance, in the 1960 vote, the popular vote in the South was assigned to the democratic ticket even though the entire popular vote in that state went to a third, Dixiecrat candidate. The electorate chose John F. Kennedy. The popular count ended up with the Democrats to elect Kennedy rather than Nixon. During 1960, my social studies class studied this. Then and there, I decided that the electoral college was not a good thing.
This effort began with Mr. Trump being elected by the electoral college method. This is my re-examination of the system. How the results of that system has effected me directly. What are the pros and cons of the system itself. So far, my analysis is that I still believe that the electoral college should go, despite the fact that without it, one of my personal favorites would not have been elected.
I. Democracy in the 1950s and 1960s – the Nostalgic years of beatniks, rock & roll, sexual revolution, and the push for human rights in the United States. I was born in 1950.
For all of those people disheartened and disappointed, I began this to be reassurance you. I think it is important to note that the Democrats had been seated in the White House and Congress for the majority of the adulthood of my parent’s lives and during my life. Father turned 21 in 1937 and mother turned 21 at the end of 1940. By the time I was born in 1950, Democrats had held the White House from 1933 until after I was born. (It might be interesting to you to look up the Truman Doctrine.) In the early fifties, I was not interested in politics, but was always listening to my parents talk Stevenson and Ike.
Dwight D. Eisenhower, was a decorated honored general from World War II and the first head of NATO. He was elected President in
1953 and served two terms (from 1953 to 1961). He was well respected, and known to play golf a lot. He was Independent before he was drafted by the Republicans to run as President. Stevenson was an intellectual.
Richard Nixon was Ike’s Vice President. He was known as Trickie Dickie because of campaign tricks he played on his opponents during his campaign for Governor in about the same year I was born. Eisenhower was going to drop him from the ticket until he made an apology speech about his dog, Checkers. I was a child and not much interested as my parents watched this speech. All I remember is Checkers. I love dogs.
THE COLD WAR
McCarthyism was rampant in the early 1950s. That was political suppression of people suspected of having Communist sympathies. All one had to do is show an interest in ideas that were not Capitalistic. McCarthy was a Senator who was allowed to ignore the Constitution completely. US citizens lost their jobs and were blackballed from society. US citizens were asked to inform on each other or lose their position in society and lose their livelihood, fostering paranoia and fear. Eisenhower was instrumental in putting the quash on that movement and warned about a future with the military/industrial complex that America was building. As a child, we were taught to hate Russia and the Soviet Union and other "Red" Nations.
Despite the fact that we felt pretty safe during the 1950s and 1960s, my parents considered building a bomb shelter in the back yard. I remember that conversation. It was too costly. Duck and cover drills were held every couple of months at school. Mother taught us, that if ever there was a bomb to go outside and greet it. (A fun fact – When mother’s house was hit by lighting in the late 1980’s, she thought it was the A-bomb, and went outside to greet it.)
Democrat John F. Kennedy was elected President, winning the White House for the Democrats again. He ran against Richard Nixon. That election was heated, but in 1960, no bad language was allowed on TV or radio, politicians were still mean and nasty, however. Although historians don’t record this, the popular vote was very close. Some said that Nixon won the election. Nixon continued to run until he was finally elected.
Kennedy expanded the US position in Viet Nam and narrowly avoided nuclear war with the Soviet Union. He was murdered (assassinated). Vice President Johnson became President (both Democrats.) The 1960s were tumultuous years. The young leadership had been killed off and there was no one to blame. Bye the end of the decade, there were riots in the streets. People were demanding equality. It also started to become recognized that women, who were introduced to the work-force during World War II, were not receiving equal opportunity or pay in the work force after WWII. Bigotry (hatred of people who look different than you) was rampant, and people were killing each other. There were riots causing fires and looting in almost every major city. Robert Kennedy was killed while campaigning for the presidency, and Martin Luther King was killed because he was for peace and equality for people of color. Demonstrations continued through the early 1970s. Those were the days. :-)
No one forgets the day your President is assassinated. Controversy and conspiracy theories survive to this day. I believe that Lee Harvey Oswald was working with Communist Soviet Union and their presence in Cuba. However, if that had been the case, and been proven and admitted to the American public, the Cold War could have very easily become hot, and nuclear bombs set off all over the world. Had that happened, we all would live in a very different world. So the Warren Report denied any foreign contribution to the murder of John F. Kennedy. I think it ludicrous to believe that Oswald’s trips to the Soviet Union and Cuba were totally innocuous.
Annihilation by nuclear warfare is still a possibility. After years of finally not having to worry about total nuclear annihilation, Mr. Trump has told us that “he will use nuclear bombs.” That statement alone makes me think that those who voted for the man just might want the destruction of the world to start completely over. I do not recommend any use of nuclear weapons, nor even the threat of the use of nuclear weapons. However, nuclear war would be a big change for those who want change for change's sake. I am against it, but most of us won't care.
Having expanded the US position in Viet Nam, the draft was needed to force young people to serve in the army. Kennedy is responsible for the Peace Corp. One way to avoid fighting was to join the Peace Corp and help people in other parts of the world.
In 1965, In response to Kennedy’s death, I joined the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). It was the only way I would meet black people, because there were none in my high school. My father was a racist and a bigot and was not fond of reading. He did not like black people (although I doubt if he ever met one). He did not like “Mexicans”, and lastly, he did NOT like Texans! My mother tried to be open minded, well read, and was introverted, but she was still in a kind of shock when a black man rang the doorbell to take me out on a date. My parents were separated. My father would have forbidden me to go out with him. Mother was much more generous and less racist.
End of Part I
What a difference a day makes in Colorful Colorado. The storm has affected travel. It is 11 miles of wet snow between here and The Goddess Isis Books and Gifts where I was scheduled to read today. I am riddled by my own guilt, because, despite the sign across the street from me, it just doesn’t look that bad outside. Not as bad as the storm a few weeks past. However, the predictions of the few next hours have kept me away. My car windshield ices up during these storms. Last year, I had to pull over, my windshield wipers broke. A few years ago, the whole windshield broke. Mechanics have been no help. If you have a suggestion, please feel free to comment.
I love The Goddess Isis Books and Gifts store. It all has to do with the people who work there. Everyone is simply wonderful and knowledgeable. The store is locally owned and run by Karen and Julie, whose presence at the store creates a wonderful, intelligent, tender, creative, and humble energy in the store. All of the staff are enlightened, aware and intuitive.
Karen is one a premier herbalist and author. Julie has such a wealth of knowledge and goodness that it makes it fun just to stand next to her as she explains one item or another sold by the store. Both sparkle.
The store has amulets made by these two wonder women that you cannot find elsewhere. Formulated by Julie, Karen or one of the other talent staff in the store, these amulets are personalized to your specific need. Especially noted are Julie’s amulets for women who have trouble conceiving. Testimonials prove one child born for each of the years she first entered school (somewhere around 61).
The best plan is to actually visit the store, located at 2776 South Broadway, Englewood, CO. But if you are afraid to drive in spring snow (one of my offending fears), you can still shop on-line at The Goddess Isis Books and Gifts website.
This store has a special energy all its own. If you ever are in the area, it is an experience worth feeling.
(Wow, as I was double-checking this post, I just noticed the shadow of a fairy sprite on the left side of the blossom picture...can you see it? )

The Tarot and Finance
Topic provided by Ania Marczyk
- Manifesting Your Life’s Plan-
Life’s transparent journey,
Symbolic spirit and energy animating material
Molecules with memory aligning into form,
Gold and money being just the norm.
I read professionally to help answer life's questions. How do we know our future? Is there a plan? Do we have choices? Do we enjoy free will or manifest destiny? Where is all the money? Can tarot help create a stream of income? Can tarot help me manifest my dreams? My own finances are the chore of my profession. Changing numbers - whatever makes life work at the moment.
Complicating because the material world of the Pentacles is the only area that must include other people. The emotions, the thoughts, the inspiration and spirit can remain private, but it is in the material world that communication is solid. Money and finance (at least prior to 1970s, before the gold standard was set aside by the resigning President) were based on earthly material, gold. The dollar had a value in gold mined from the earth, and so there was communion with the earth as well as agreement of its value, based upon the exchange of a rare ore. The Tarot recalls the traditional and historic agreement regarding money and finance, not necessarily the printed dollar and virtual finance in today's new world.
The suits express commonality of vision. Pentacles (Diamonds, Coins) envision the material world, including financial matters. Cups (Hearts, Water) envision the emotional world, materializing as facial expression. Swords (Spades,) represent the intellectual world, materializing in problem solving. Rods (Clubs) represent the spiritual and scientific world, materializing in a concept of the universe. Yet, we do not see things as they are, we see things as we are.
Behind the world of finance loom specters of power, greed, hope, charity and security. What is the personal path to elusive security? How can I be who I am and do what I enjoy and have financial security? The answer does not lie in pentacles (money) alone but in the process of manifestation.
Each suit is connected to the other. Patterns develop. The tarot can show you your own personal pattern to manifestation.
Wands, the spiritual influence, show the inspiration that begins the art of manifestation.Cups show the emotional response to the inspiration. Are we motivated to act upon the inspiration. Is the inspiration attractive to us? Our emotional passion will either stop us from pursuit of a specific inspiration or leave that inspiration by the wayside for someone else to develop.
Then we must use our intellect (Swords). We ask ourselves if the inspiration is possible? Do we have the resources to accomplish the material result? Do we have the required energy to maintain the inspiration to fruition or financial gain? Is there an underlying fear of financial insecurity that manifests in poverty? The tarot will likely have the answers to those questions.
Our dreams and inspiration will become real or remain elusive. It is only after we use the unseen powers of inspiration, emotion, and intellect that lie within that we are able to manifest those powers in the material world. In a way, that makes the Pentacle the most flexible and dependent of the suits.
